In September 2022, a database of homicides that the Mexican government claims are linked to organized crime was leaked. It includes records of the deaths of 5,529 women, out of which 92.33 per cent are reported as "criminal suspects." Authorities instrumentalize women's murders to justify the continuing militarized security policy, and deny the state’s responsibility for their deaths.
